How will my hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism be diagnosed?

The functional approach should start with a detailed history to elicit the symptoms of hypo- and hyper -thyroidism (Box-1).

Box-1 Top 5 Symptoms

Hypothyroidism Hyperthyroidism
Weakness Nervousness
Dry Skin Increased Sweating
Lethargy Intolerance to heat
Oedema Palpitations
Cold Intolerance Weight Loss

Next is clinical examination for signs of hypo- or hyper-thyroidism (Box–2, Fig - 3).
